Perhaps its not too late...
Its been awhile, but too long I think not. I’ve missed blogging, and have been thinking about it since I stopped (or took a break), but life never stops to fascinate me, and I like this outlet to record it. So, hi. Welcome back :) I’m home, back from Athens. This blog was initially meant to be for that, to record all my experiences, and I’m so glad that I did. The focus will...

Merry Christmas everyone! I’m back in the u.s.of.a. and it feels darn good :) I love seeing family and friends and having the freedom from school to catch up with everyone I’ve missed so much, not too mention my little rascal pooch zoe who did NOT gain weight while i was gone (though my dad and bro successfully fooled me during the whole car ride that she had, i was quite relieved to...

Hello, Goodbye
Welcome to my last post from Athens, my psuedo-home for the last 3 1/2 months. It was inevitable that my time here would come to an end, another event in my life has come and gone, as all seem to do. It has been a crazy time, especially when I think about how much travelling I have done this semester, I can’t believe how lucky I am to have been so many places. I’ll make some...

What's up in Athens...
The Athens garbage collectors are on strike, and have been for the past three weeks. I think it’s sweet that they’re on strike, but stinky for the rest of Athens. Normally, people throw their trash into the big dumpsters all over the city and the trash guys empty them every few days. So, with the workers on strike these dumpsters are currently over-flowing out of control. It’s...

Oh, the weather outside is...weather.
Cheers mate! I was just checking out my handy dandy google desktop and looking at the weather in Athens compared to the Beav and Walla Walla, and let me just say I shouldn’t say. I will anyways, though, because while I do love winter and the cold weather, its pretty sweeeet that it’s consistently in the high 50’s here and at home its in the…20s! Ah I know I’m lucky...

What better time to write a blog post...
Yeia Sas! I am sitting in the CYA lunch room/student center right now. In three or four hours (i haven’t decided yet) I’ll be leaving to catch the bus to the airport, and then get on the plane to London at 9:20 pm. I just ate a nasty lunch of soy burgers and plain white rice (or actually I didn’t really eat it, just coffee pears and bread and a feta mash instead (a feta...

Four be the things I am wiser to know: Idleness, sorrow, a friend, and a foe. Four be the things I’d been better without: Love, curiosity, freckles, and doubt. Three be the things I shall never attain: Envy, content, and sufficient champagne. Three be the things I shall have till I die: Laughter and hope and a sock in the eye. -...

Almost there!
Today I was sitting in Starbucks (first time, I swear) and it occured to me that I felt pretty close to being a Greek, if only I was smoking a cigarette (hell no). I was wearing almost all black, drinking my coffee extremely slow, and had Greek (language) going through my head. It was a cool realization :) I’m sure I still looked pretty American, but maybe not because two different people...

athens marathon - go green team
This last week was pretty busy. We came back from Fall break to a week full of classes (usually we have Friday off, but it was a make-up day this week). Thankfully, I didn’t forget as much Greek as I was afraid I might after not having Greek class for two weeks, and I’ve been a lot more motivated in the class since we got back. I realized that I should really take advantage of this...

End of the Egyptian Excursion
Egypt has come to an end :( It’s about 10:15 am here and our flight leaves at 3, so we’re just hanging out at our hostel until it’s time to go to the airport. Here are some highlights of the past three days (it’s all kind of a highlight so I’ll just tell about everything we did): On Wednesday we went to the famous open-air market in Cairo called the Khan-Al Kallili,...

Cairo - Day 2
Yeia Sou Day 2 - Yesterday we woke up at around 9ish and ate a nice comp. breakfast at our hostel. I had nescafe, bread, some fig jam, cheese, and an egg, that’s what they gave so thats what I ate. We then departed at a leisurely pace (mm yes) for the Egyptian Museum. We walked there which was a time in itself, Tiffany is our map girl for the trip (i like to think im her handy assistant...

EGYPT
Yeia SAS! I just wanted to do a quick update to let you know I made it to Cairo. It’s so cool here, OMG, I was not expecting it to beso much different from Greece, and of course the U.S. It really feels like an entirely different world, I’m so excited for the rest of this week. We got in around 3 pm after a pretty bumpy flight and we (me and my five travel buddies) have all been...

PELO AND THE PYRAMIDS!!!
YA SAS I MUST do an update right now because for the next two weeks I am going to be OUT OF ATHENS!!! I’m SOO excited! It is going to be so nice to be away from the chaos of this city for such a good amount of time. I was walking around town a little bit yesterday and I was just thinking the whole time, “someone stick me in a forest!!!”. I can’t help it, I’m so used...

sprinting
Right now I’m working on an essay and the way it’s going reminds me of sprinting. I have these big bursts of thought and get super organized with my essay, and then in an instant it’s over and the spurt has ended and I’m left to wait for the next one. It’s kind of fun because when the sprints come I get a lot done, and when they end it’s like my brain saying it...

Gupdates
Updates bullet style: ~Today is Monday and last week I had class, but the week before that we took a field trip to Crete from Tues-Fri. Crete was definitely the highlight of my time in Greece up to that point. There is so much I could say about the trip and I haven’t quite decided yet how in depth I’ll go. We visited some crazy archeaological sites, I’ve never really been...

νέων τροφίμων
That’s pronounced nion trofimon…ish ;) and it means new food in Greek. Since being in Greece I’ve adopted some new eating habits and have been trying a ton of new food. We get lunch from Mon-Fri in the Academic Center, and to everyone’s surprise it is delicious almost every day! There is always a big mound of feta to add to whatever we’re having, and the main dish is...

Kriti
In about five hours I’m leaving for Crete for the rest of the week. I’m so excited to get out of the craziness of Athens for a few days and be on a beautiful island and swim and see cool archeological sites! I’m a little stressed though because I have a 5 o’clock class and I still need to pack and shower and get some food for the trip before that, but I’m writing...

the highlights of this week: on wendesday i had some time before class so i took a walk around athens near my school. we’re about 10 minutes from the temple of zues, so i walked there first and went in. there was a turtle walking along the ridge inside the temple, it was soo cute, i wanted to pick it up and keep it. after that i kept walking up the street towards the acropolis which was...
